I thought it might be worth explaining how the village email system works, so that you all know how best to use it.
Your messages arrive in the inbox during the day and evening, and then at around 8.30pm I sit down to post them on the website. I usually check the inbox again at around 9.30pm for any additional messages, but after that I’m off duty. The next morning all the messages I have posted the previous evening are gathered into one email by the internal system, and sent out to subscribers automatically at 7.00am. We currently have around 250 subscribers.
When I post messages on the website, they go out immediately via the Wootton Courtenay Twitter and Facebook accounts: https://twitter.com/WoottonSomerset and https://www.facebook.com/woottoncourtenay
The email system is run on behalf of the Parish Council. I am obliged to keep messages reasonably short, to avoid endless scrolling by our readers. If a message is necessarily lengthy, I usually write a short introduction and add a link to the full message in pdf form. Material containing facts about individuals or organisations must be accurate and verifiable, and views and opinions must not portray their subjects in a way which could unjustifiably damage their reputation.
When you receive a village email, make sure you scroll down to the end as there are often several messages posted one after the other. Oddly, messages from villagers are rather like buses – I might go days without receiving any at all and then six arrive all at once.
You can contact me via the Contact page on the Wootton Courtenay village website, or via the email address contact@woottoncourtenayvillage.co.uk You may find it useful to add this email address to your Contacts List on your computer so that you have the address to hand. You can also send images or posters by attaching them to your email, and I will add them to your message when it’s posted.
