Sustainable Wootton Courtenay is a community group which aims to promote sustainable practices, biodiversity and combat climate change.
During the year we design and identify a number of projects to support and develop our aims and we enjoy a foray into Citizen Science. The local community has been very supportive and we feel we’ve made a difference and learned a great deal along the way.

During 2025 we:
- a) published our 2024/25 Biodiversity Survey Report. The results have provided us with baseline data about a range of species within the Parish boundary and form a reference point, against which future changes may be measured. We researched, and included in the report how we might support threatened species by providing suitable habitats and wildlife corridors.
- b) planted a number of trees supplied by the Woodland Trust on the Playing Field to benefit birds and wildlife.
- c) exhibited and gave a presentation at Minehead Climate Fair in October.
- d) took part in the Great UK Waterblitz and tested the water quality of the River Hannay at five locations upstream, within and downstream of the village. The results showed very low concentrations of nitrates and phosphates.
- e) made and erected swift boxes for a number of villagers with suitable locations.
- f) continued to share interesting reports, information and “small measures” through our regular Newsletters.
- g) joined several local beach cleans.
The Home Energy Forum (formerly the Energy Efficiency Group) continues to inform, encourage and support energy efficiency improvements in village homes.
