Andy Says Goodbye

I’m off soon.. Hasta la Vista baby!
(As terribly quoted by a local politician on leaving Downing Street!)

This coming weekend will see the Villagers’ Stores change hands. Mark and Sarah will take charge from Tuesday 2nd May.

I write to thank you all so much for making my time in this wonderful village so memorable. I have made some fabulous friendships that I hope will continue for many years and I have enjoyed a relaxed and fun ‘banter’ with everyone. We live in a beautiful part of Somerset, a spot I will miss enormously. The stunning scenery of Exmoor and the great people within it have made for a truly wonderful time here in Wootton Courtenay.

I am off, temporarily, to the Highlands of Scotland. A small town called Dufftown, the “whisky capital of the world”, where I have acquired a disused pub with a number of holiday-let units behind. It is a project that will involve conversion of the pub into further lets. I aim to have this business up and running by the end of the year, parts of it functioning this summer. Please don’t be shy in coming up to stay – beautiful walks; unspoiled, vast and wild countryside; fishing; Findhorn coastline and of course the heart of the Speyside Distillery Trail. A fabulous retreat! My email address is below.

Friday evening will be my last in the bar and I hope to have the garden open for the first time this year. It would be lovely to see as many of you as possible to say a farewell.

I wish Mark and Sarah every success in their new venture. Wootton Courtenay is a great place to live and work and I know they will quickly gain the support of the village. If they have half as much fun as I have had, then they have lots of excitements in store.

Again, thank you so much for the warm welcome I received back in late 2017 and the fun, laughter and support that have since followed. I will return..!

With all best wishes,

Andy
