For sale: Acer shirasawanum ‘Moonrise’ – £40
This acer is an upright form of Japanese maple with dissected foliage which emerges orange/red in spring and gradually becomes light green as the season changes to summer. It is 120cm (4ft) tall (without the pot), well-branched and healthy. This acer is best grown in partial shade; it will happily tolerate sun for half the day but prefers shade in the afternoon. We won’t have space for it in our new garden, hence this sale.
The thing is, I’d like to keep the pot. The acer’s rootball is 35cm x 35cm (14″ x14″), so if you buy it you’d need to bring a large pot or an old compost bag, and I will remove it from its pot for you. As long as the roots are kept damp it won’t mind the transition.
The photos below are mainly how it looks at the moment with its red foliage, but I’ve included an image showing the leaf colour in summer, too.
