Village Programme, Autumn 2023

The Village Hall Committee has been busy and we have some interesting events coming up for you. Be sure to record the dates in your calendars – you wouldn’t want to miss them!

Village Talks

We are pleased to announce that we have organised three talks for the period leading up to Christmas. Thank you in advance to all our lovely ‘volunteers’.

Tuesday 3rd October: Joanna Webber – ‘Exmoor Ponies and Their Conservation’ Joanna will share her experience of caring for Exmoor ponies.

Tuesday November 7th: Simon Brown – ‘Let’s Go To The Seaside: The Heyday of Railway Travel in West Somerset and North Devon’. A nostalgic journey back to the age of steam.

Tuesday December 5th: Marcus Capel will talk about his personal journey from Zambia to Wootton Courtenay including his choirs and schools, and focusing on his work with The Pony Club.

Take Art

We are lucky enough to have been accepted for two Take Art performances.

Thursday November 16th – ‘John Peel’s Shed’. In 2002 John Osborne won a box of records in a competition on John Peel’s radio show. This storytelling performance includes those records, which were once owned by John Peel. It is an ode to radio and to anyone who has sought solace in the wireless.

Saturday January 27th, 2024 – Blair Dunlop. Blair Dunlop is a singer songwriter whose music is essentially folk but also spans many other genres. He has gained a reputation for his beautiful songwriting and catchy melodies. He accompanies himself on the guitar.

Film Club

Barbara O’Keefe and I have taken over the running of the Film Club from Bill Hodgson, although he is still very much involved. We aim to alternate our film months with those of The Theatre Club.

Monday October 30th – Screening of ‘The Duke’ starring Jim Broadbent. This comedy drama is a true story surrounding the theft of a portrait of The Duke of Wellington in 1961. It’s very good!

On Monday December 11th we will show a Christmas themed film, the title to be confirmed. (We would welcome ideas).

That’s all for now. Details of each will be given separately nearer the time. What a busy village we are!
