The Wootton Courtenay Village Trust (WCVT) was set up in 1998, with the full agreement and co-operation of the Villagers Stores directors, to act as a vehicle to hold assets donated to the Trust. It was envisaged that these assets would largely consist of Villagers’ Stores debentures and shares, which have no immediate or significant cash value unless the shop were to close and the property sold.
WCVT is a charitable trust, with the Trust Deed clearly stating how any assets or income may be used within the parish.
A Trust holding these shares has an advantage to the shop company directors in that ownership of the donated shares remains within the village. Shareholder contact details may otherwise be difficult to trace in the future.
The Trust’s holding of Wootton Courtenay Villagers’ Stores shares and associated debentures has grown over the years as shareholders who have died or moved away have donated shares as a means of “giving back” to the village.
Anyone wishing to have more information or to donate to the Trust should contact one of the trustees or email wcvt1998@gmail.com
