Wootton Courtenay Flower & Produce Show 2024

Tuesday 6th August, 2.00pm in the Village Hall

Spring is upon us at last, despite the excessive rainfall, and now is the time to remind you all to start thinking about what you might enter to fill our show benches at this year’s Flower and Produce Show. Plump vegetables, scented herbs, colourful flowers, delicious cakes, jams and jellies, intricate knitting, crochet, sewing and embroidery, and fabulous photographs – there is a category for everyone, so do take part if you can. The friendly rivalry of the Flower and Produce Show brings the village together in its biggest event of the year, and remember – it’s the taking part that matters, not necessarily the winning!

Photography Category

This year, the Photography Category will be an exhibition rather than a competition. Rather than formal judging, a People’s Choice Cup will be awarded for the photograph which wins the most votes from the public.

Please have a go, as we would love to display as many images as possible, with lots of variety. Everyone sees things differently and this will make the exhibition fun and exciting. I am happy to offer printing for people who can’t print their photographs but don’t want to go to a professional printing service. I would only charge for the materials – around £2 for an A4 print.

Categories:
1) Church and churchyard. Inside, outside, or any detail.
2) Garden. A large or small vista/view but not just a specific plant or group of plants – it needs to clearly have the context of a garden.
3) Coast. With or without people.

The maximum size of image is 10 x 8 inches. Maximum size of paper or mount: A4.

Images can be colour or black and white, and if you want to try some abstraction or post-processing, that is fine too. Why not use this as an opportunity to challenge yourself and have some fun? Get out your camera, or use your phone, and start trying to find your pictures.

Handicrafts Category

This year the Handicrafts Category will be divided into two classes;
Knitting and Crochet
Sewing and Embroidery (including Tapestry)

The committee have also decided to provide a guidance sheet for all exhibitors, which will be issued with the Show Schedule in May. It offers advice on what to aim for and what to avoid when preparing your entries for the Show.

Engraving

Wootton Courtenay Gardening Club will be covering the cost of engraving the winners’ cups from now on. Engraving is cheaper when done in bulk, and it means that winners won’t be penalised financially for their efforts. The cups will be gathered at the end of the Show and, once engraved, will be available for winners to collect from the Villagers’ Stores.

So get sowing, snapping and sewing, and let’s make this year’s Show the best yet!
