The Wootton Courtenay Flower and Produce Show takes place in just one month now, on Tuesday August 6th 2024.
Hopefully you are all thinking about your potential entries! It is definitely not just about winning prizes. For me, it is about celebrating the growers, makers and bakers of our village to create a joyful and vibrant display in the village hall for everyone who comes along to enjoy. This will be my third summer in Wootton Courtenay, and I have been so impressed by the two shows I have been to here, so please help make this one just as good, or possibly even better!
There is a great information sheet to help you consider and prepare your entries, which you can see here. There are also paper copies in the Villagers’ Stores.
Fruit, veg and flowers:
It hasn’t been an easy growing year, but plants generally do seem to be coming on at last and with a month to go, there will be flowers, fruit, vegetables and herbs worthy of showing. It is not about perfection. We want as many people to take part as possible.
Cookery and preserves and eggs:
There are lots of categories for baking: many types of cake, scones, sausage rolls and bread…so please have a go! And let’s have lots of ‘Mancakes’ this year (section 51)
Photography:
There will be an exhibition of all the entries this year rather than a competition. There are three categories (please see the Schedule for full details). Feel free to add a caption if you would like to. The photograph does not have to have been taken in the last 12 months.
Needlecraft:
This section has been divided into two this year: knitting and crochet is one, sewing and embroidery the other.
And if you have any young family staying for summer holidays, they are welcome to enter the Junior Flower Arrangement section (36).
SO, please contribute as much as you can to make this a great day!
Please can any of you who still have cups from last year return them to the Villagers’ Stores, engraved and cleaned, as soon as possible.
We would welcome any contributions for raffle prizes. Please take these to the Villagers’ Stores.
If anyone can volunteer a cake for the refreshment stall, or offer to help with teas on the day, then please let me know: ingridpopplewell@gmail.com
