For the plantaholics amongst you, we noticed yesterday a profusion of ivy broomrape under the yew in the churchyard. This is a parasitic plant which grows on the roots of ivy. It has no leaves or chlorophyll, taking all its nutrition from the host plant. It’s not rare so much as unusual, and confined mainly to the south and west, but certainly we have never seen so many flower spikes in one place.
