Thank you to everyone who came and enjoyed ‘Breakfast for All Saints’ yesterday (Friday, 1st November). Your support was tremendous and much appreciated – we raised a very cheering £485 in just over two hours. As someone said to me, that’ll buy a couple of slates!
People have been asking how much the roof is going to cost to replace/repair but I’m afraid I can’t give a straight answer. The slates are in good order but the iron nails have rusted, which means the slates are slipping. There is also woodworm in the supporting timbers. I have it on good authority that the roof isn’t about to collapse, so what we are doing is forward planning – if we raise a decent sum we can start applying for matched funding. Grants are available for the maintenance and upkeep of Grade 1 listed buildings, of which All Saints’ Church is one. In the meantime, local contractor Steve Gooding is going to carry out an overhaul: fix the lead flashing and replace some slipped slates.
Anyhoo, our next fundraiser will be at the end of January 2025, when Mary Noble has very kindly agreed to set a quiz and there will be a selection of curries. So, for the sake of originality, I am calling the event a ‘Quiz and Curry Nite’! Please put 31st January in your diaries and, in the meantime, if anyone has anything we can raffle that evening, please let me know.
With many thanks,
Amanda
