Thinking Allowed

Monday 11th November at 7pm

This is a reminder that the next Thinking Allowed will be next Monday (11th November) at 7pm in the Villagers’ Stores. The bar will be open from 6.30pm.

The topic is ‘What is truth?’
‘Thinking Allowed’ is always open to exploring the big contemporary questions and, in this time of elections, this is certainly one of them. However, the question of truth also affects our personal lives and attitudes, and it is important that the big questions around it raised in our politics do not mask the more intimate questions that shape our daily lives. In ‘Thinking Allowed’, we attempt to open up and get behind issues, probing how they affect day-to-day living, though we can never in our 50 minute conversations do complete justice to issues that have been on the human agenda since human beings first walked the earth. Hopefully we leave the meeting knowing the thinking of others and more enlightened. To lighten the atmosphere, we have poetry and a fair amount of laughter: while taking the topic seriously, we do not always take ourselves too seriously. Space is given for all views – those that swim against the tide are encouraged.

Two members of the group have kindly provided some helpful context and background for our conversation here. The notes are launch-pads into our topic – the direction of our conversations are determined by those present and are always an adventure. This is not to be missed. All are welcome.
