Reporting Ringed Birds

Many thanks to Ken Busby, who reported the ring number of a chaffinch he found on his lawn last weekend. This was a bird I had ringed in my garden near Timberscombe in April last year, and which had hatched in 2024. This won’t set any migration records, as it had moved all of 2km! However, it all adds up in the data, and informs us about how well individual species are faring. A few years ago a dead kingfisher was found in WC, which had been ringed near Barnstaple.

So if you find a dead bird, please check the legs for a ring. It can be reported on this website: https://app.bto.org/euring/lang/pages/rings.jsp Or just email me at brian@eastharwoodfarm.co.uk
