Towards the end of last year, we were fortunate to host a discussion about Gaza at the village hall. Sir Andrew Burns, former British Ambassador to Israel, talked to villagers about his time in Israel, about Gaza and about ‘Oasis of Peace UK’, a charity he supports. We are hoping to welcome a representative from that charity at the end of April this year.
‘Oasis of Peace’ is the English translation of the name of Neve Shalom in Hebrew and Wahat al-Salam in Arabic – NSWaS. ‘Oasis of Peace UK’ supports the educational institutions of NSWaS – a unique intentional community of Jewish and Palestinian-Arab Israeli citizens, located midway between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Based on the ethos of NSWaS, their mission is to advance social equity and cohesion in both Israel and the United Kingdom.
The people who work for the charity are currently living and working in the centre of the war zone between US/Israeli forces and Iran. This letter (click here to read) was recently sent to all supporters of ‘Oasis of Peace’ and published on their website: in a moving way, it describes the trauma inflicted on ordinary people.
