Building a Village Room: Calling for Volunteers

At the last AGM of the Villagers’ Stores it was agreed that we should go ahead with Andy’s idea of converting the old post office area into a village room with a licenced bar, coffee machine and comfortable seating.  The room would be available for villagers to meet for coffee, etc, and the bar would be open once a week, and whenever otherwise required.

Our attempts to obtain a grant for the project have not been successful because there is less grant money available, and the main grant providers are placing a major priority on economic need.

We have decided to ‘DO IT OURSELVES’ this spring, with advice from some of our building experts and volunteers from our village.   The main building work consists of taking down some partitions, making good, redecorating and creating a wooden bar and storage.   Some adjustment of plumbing and cabling will be required, and professional help may be required for this.   Carpeting and furnishing will be required and we will be fundraising for this later in the spring.

  •  If you have building expertise we would welcome your help and advice
  •  If you are willing to help in any capacity (labouring, tidying, painting, making good,       tea making, etc), we would be keen to talk to you.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP US WITH THIS EXCITING PROJECT PLEASE DISCUSS IT WITH ANDY IN THE SHOP.   Just drop in, or phone him on 841582, or email  – andy@gilesy.com
