Look Out for the Asian Hornet

Asian hornets are a significant threat to honeybees and other pollinators.  If they become established in the UK, it is predicted they will have a devastating impact on our insect population.  Asian hornets have been spotted in the UK, and some nests destroyed, but we fear numbers will inevitably increase.  It is expected that it is most likely to be found in numbers in southern parts of England, as it may be able to cross the channel from France.

Asian hornets are large, dark wasps with black and orange markings.  Click here for identification information: ID Asian Hornet

Good quality photos are essential to confirm sightings.  If you see one, please send details and photos to alertnonnative@ceh.ac.uk , or you can download the Asian Hornet Watch app to your Apple or Android phone.
