This week the Regal Theatre is hosting a world premier!
In the 1980s and 90s, the well-known author and playwright Simon Brett wrote ‘After Henry’, a sitcom starring Prunella Scales, which ran for several series. He has now turned that into a musical play, with a large number of wonderful songs by Chris Summerfield. The Minehead amateur drama group, Barnstormers, is staging it, and is the first to do so: a world premier for Minehead!
The story concerns Sarah, a middle-aged widow, whose efforts to move on from her loss are not helped by her interfering mother, who lives downstairs, and her love-troubled daughter in the flat upstairs. Other characters add a touch of romance plus further mayhem and comedy in this funny, but poignant, brilliant observation of human relationships.
There are 8 experienced local actors in the cast and the songs are accompanied by a live, 10-piece band of excellent local musicians. Directed by Patrick Daley, with musical direction by David Pitts and choreography by Lorraine Ahern, the production is at the Regal Theatre from Thursday Nov 2nd to Saturday Nov 4th.
