Following a lengthy period of research by local geophysicists, it has been discovered that Wootton Courtenay occupies a unique position within the landscape of Exmoor, with a cluster of ley lines crossing in the middle of the village playing field. Ley lines directly connect historic structures, prehistoric sites and prominent landmarks, and often represent ancient pathways.
According to the Honourable Association of Druids (HAD), based in Salisbury, this discovery confers an exceptionally spiritual status upon the village. They have mooted the idea of erecting a stone circle in Wootton Courtenay and would prefer the monument to be constructed in the village’s centre of invisible energy – the playing field.
A spokesman for HAD, Barney Weeble (self-titled Athelstan the Unruly) proposes twice-yearly celebrations at the new stone circle, to celebrate the summer and winter solstices. Apparently the summer ritual – held as the sun rises on the solstice – should be performed naked, but thankfully Barney says that’s not compulsory.
