All Saints’ Church News

Well, there is good news and then there is bad news! Let’s start with some good news: believe it or not, summer has arrived and that brings Sung Evensong to All Saints’ Church, Wootton Courtenay.

The first Evensong service of this year is at 6pm on Sunday, 9th June. We will be joined again by Porlock’s ‘Friends in Harmony’ so the singing will be first rate. For a tuneful way to enjoy a summer evening, why not join us? Drinks and nibbles follow the service.

More good news is that the talented young violinist, Anthony Knight, will be joining us again at All Saints’ after the service on 23rd June. The communion service is at 11am and he will be playing from about 11.50/Noon for fifteen minutes to raise funds for UNICEF.

The bad news is that the iron nails holding the slates on the back roof of the church are oxidising, causing the slates to slip. I’ve been keeping a ‘watching brief’ on this for about two years and we’ve had a couple of rolling repairs but, having been away for ten days, I can see that more slates have slipped. As the Churchwarden (me!) hates fire fighting, fundraising is starting now, before the whole roof slips away! So, being positive, on 21st June from 9am to 11.30am, we will be hosting ‘The Cafe All Saints’ BIG midsummer’s day breakfast’ at the village hall. Breakfasts are by donation and all money will go towards the Church roof repair. Why not try the ‘Full Monty’ (bacon, sausages, egg, mushrooms, baked beans, tomato and fried bread or toast)? Other breakfasts are available!

Unfortunately, the roof timbers also have woodworm so this is not going to be a straightforward job. ‘Twas ever thus!

Finishing on a high note, we will be having a fun service of animal blessing on the playing field on 7th July at 5pm. All animals welcome. Refreshments for pets and their servants follow the service.

If you’d like to join us for any or all of these services and events, you can be guaranteed a warm welcome – and there are always refreshments.
