Celebratory Gardening Club Talk

Thursday 31st July, 7.30pm in the Village Hall
Ken Thompson – ‘No Nettles Required’

Members entry: free. Guests: £3

We have added an extra event to the Gardening Club calendar this summer. Having somehow missed the Club’s 25th anniversary last year, I thought it would be nice to add an extra talk this year by way of a belated celebration, so I have invited the author, botanist and ecologist Ken Thompson to come and give his talk, ‘No Nettles Required’. Earlier this year Bill and I went to an Hardy Plant Society meeting where Ken gave this talk and we thought it was particularly interesting and engaging.

Ken is now retired, but for 20 years he was a senior lecturer in Plant Ecology at the University of Sheffield. In ‘No Nettles Required’ he debunks common assumptions about wildlife gardening and backs up his theories with solid scientific evidence, citing projects and results from his own work at Sheffield. It is the results of his experiments which make this talk so fascinating – no fly-by-night assumptions here, just fact-based reality. If you’re keen on attracting wildlife to your garden, then this talk will help you understand how best to go about it.

I hope you can join us for Ken’s visit, as it promises to be a great evening.
