Tuesday 4th August 2026
2.00 – 5.00pm in Wootton Courtenay Village Hall
The Flower & Produce Show is Wootton Courtenay biggest annual event in the Village Hall, and one of the most enjoyable. It is not necessarily winning prizes that is the thrill, it’s taking part and contributing to the benches full of beautiful exhibits which creates such a happy atmosphere in the hall and brings us all together!
No Auction This Year
This year, surplus cakes, bread, preserves and flower exhibits will be sold from a table in the hall, rather than auctioned off. Exhibitors will be invited to bring their food or flower exhibits to the sales table to be sold: if they don’t bring them to the table, they won’t automatically be sold. This will allow cup holders time to go outside and be photographed with the other winners without worrying about rescuing their exhibits at the same time. The committee felt this might prove to be a less fraught arrangement for exhibitors.
Any fruit and vegetables not claimed by exhibitors will go to the village shop to be sold in aid of the West Somerset Food Cupboard.
Schedules
The Schedules for this year’s Flower & Produce Show are in the village shop now. Please drop in and collect one – don’t miss out. There are many different classes to suit everyone. If you don’t have much of a garden, you can bake, knit, sew, take photographs, and/or create a flower arrangement to enter for the Show. If you do have a garden, why not take a look at the Schedule and consider which classes you might enter for the Show?
For 2026 we have a new section just for children, including ‘Miniature Garden’ and ‘Decorated Cupcakes’!
Exhibitors’ Advice Sheets
Our advice sheet offers guidance on what the judges hope to see when they assess your entries. This is just a friendly guide, intended to help entrants, not discourage them! Click here to read the advice sheet. There will also be a copy on display in the Villagers’ Stores.
Photography Topics
It’s time to get your cameras and phones out and start thinking about your entries for the Photography Exhibition this year.
The three photography topics are:
‘Village Life’
‘Trees’
‘Sunlight’
You can enter all three categories, but only one photo per person per category, please. The pictures should be unmounted, no bigger than A4 size. Images can be post-processed and can be black and white or colour. All pictures need to have been taken since last year’s show.
There will be a People’s Choice vote again this year. The public will vote for the winner in each category and the People’s Choice Cup will go to the overall winner.
Hanging Baskets
If you’d like to enter a hanging basket to be judged at the Show and don’t have one of the green plastic 9″ hanging baskets required, please email Marion Jay at marion@garden84.net and she will provide you with a basket which you can fill with your choice of plants. Entries must be in the baskets provided.
This year’s colour theme for the hanging baskets is Blue, Purple and Yellow. Please note – hanging baskets may contain any combination of these three colours. Entries will not be disqualified for using fewer than the three colours, so you could even create a basket of just one colour if you wish.
Raffle Prizes
Could you donate a prize for the Flower Show raffle? The raffle is a popular and important part of the Flower Show. We would specifically like donations of foodie treats – bottles of drink (alcoholic or otherwise), chocs, biscuits, etc – and gardening-related items. If you can help with any of those, please drop your donated prize off at the Villagers’ Stores next time you’re in there.
Cakes for the Refreshments Table
If you’re willing to make a cake to grace the refreshments table, please contact Linda Stenner at whit.ps1954@gmail.com and let her know what kind of cake you will be bringing. All donated cakes very gratefully received.
Winners’ Cups
Could we please ask that last year’s winners return their cups to the Villagers’ Stores by Saturday July 18th. Cups must be cleaned before returning.
The Gardening Club covers the engraving costs for all winners’ cups. Cups will be gathered at the end of this year’s Show and engraved together, then returned to the winners.
Proceeds of the Show
The Flower & Produce Show provides the main source of income for the village Gardening Club. To find out how that money is used, click here to go to the Club page of the village website. In addition, any fruit and vegetables not claimed by exhibitors will go to the village shop to be sold in aid of the West Somerset Food Cupboard.
Many thanks to Sarah and Mark for acting as a collection hub for exhibitors’ entries, raffle prizes, etc., and for selling the surplus fruit and veg in the shop. We couldn’t do this without you!
Pick up your copy of the Schedule this week. And good luck!
