This month’s issue of Exmoor ParkLife includes news of a new initiative designed to encourage the public to help maintain and publicise the National Park.
Running until 30th September 2026, the Pay With Exmoor Care scheme will offer people 20% off purchases at Exmoor National Park Centres when they complete a small action that helps care for the National Park. Eligible actions include picking up litter, travelling by public transport, recording wildlife, and sharing positive messages about caring for the National Park on social media. People taking part simply choose an action to complete, show evidence of it, and redeem the reward at National Park Centres in Dulverton, Dunster or Lynmouth.
The idea has been inspired by the successful CopenPay scheme initiated in Copenhagen, and is believed to be the first of its kind in a UK National Park. It is supported by Celestron, who are offsetting the discount applied to their binoculars and telescopes sold in the Centres.

And don’t miss a chance to see archaeology in progress at the Pinkery Canal Heritage Open Day. Pinkery Canal is one of Exmoor’s most intriguing and mysterious features, and the highest canal ever built in England. A new excavation, part of the ‘Exmoor Pioneers Project’, is looking beneath it at the peat and soils sealed below its banks, which act like a time capsule, preserving evidence of what Exmoor may have looked like before the Knights reshaped the landscape in the nineteenth century.
