Guidance Notes for Users
These guidance notes are for villagers who wish to use the Wootton Courtenay Village Transport Scheme, which is coordinated by Sustainable Wootton Courtenay. We encourage villagers to make use of this scheme, which is run by villagers for villagers. If you have any questions, please contact Barbara O’Keefe on 07974 417011 or barbaraokeefe57@gmail.com
Welcome to Your Village Transport Scheme!
This community transport scheme is run by local volunteers to help you get to appointments and shopping trips safely, comfortably, and affordably. Sharing cars also helps reduce our village’s carbon footprint.
Where appropriate, villagers will be encouraged to use existing transport options, such as the Slinky and AtWest schemes, before using our small village transport scheme.
How to Book a Ride
Booking: Contact the Transport Coordinator, Barbara O’Keefe, by phone, text, or WhatsApp on 07974 417011.
Notice: Please book at least 48 hours ahead so we can arrange for a volunteer driver.
Details needed: Please provide your name, phone number, destination, and the exact time of your appointment or shopping trip.
Fuel Contributions & Costs
Our volunteer drivers use their own cars, so we suggest a small fixed contribution per vehicle trip to help cover petrol costs, based on HMRC mileage rates:
Minehead /Dunster Trip (Round Trip): £5 total per car
Taunton Trip (Round Trip): £25 total per car
How to pay: You can hand cash directly to your driver in the car.
Note: If the coordinator matches you with other villagers heading to the same place, you can split this cost between you!
What to Expect from Your Driver
Door-to-door service: Your driver will collect you from home, help you safely into the car, and drop you outside your destination.
Mobility support: Drivers can lift and store walking frames, sticks, or heavy shopping bags in the boot.
Confirmation call: Your driver will call the evening before your trip to introduce themselves and confirm your pickup time.
Need to Cancel or Make Changes?
If your appointment is changed or you no longer need a lift, please inform the Transport Coordinator, Barbara O’Keefe, on 07974 417011 as soon as possible so we can let your volunteer driver know.
