A Talk by Lady Christine Skelmersdale – ‘Tulips: Origins, History and How to Grow’

A reminder that Christine Skelmersdale will be coming to give a Gardening Club talk next Tuesday, exploring the subject of tulips.
You may think our winters are too wet to grow tulips, but you’d be wrong! There are areas of well-drained soil in every garden, and that’s all you need for a glorious blaze of colour throughout the spring. Their satin petals and vivid hues are the perfect tonic to lift the spirits after a long winter.
Christine will be showing us how tulips evolved, from the Central Asian steppes via the courts of Constantinople to the bulb fields of Holland. She will also be advising on how best to use them in containers and borders, and offering pointers to the more perennial varieties.
Tea and biscuits will be served from 7pm and the talk starts at 7.30, so come early and have a chat.
