Monday 9th November
In Thinking Allowed’s final meeting of the year – we shall be taking a break over Christmas – our topic will be, ‘There is no such thing as society?’ Question mark added. There was no question mark for Margaret Thatcher, who famously said this in 1987. We shall be re-visiting her comment at our next meeting. We now live in different times from when it was said, but how do we view it now? To give the comments more context, here are the three sentences which follow her statement:
There are individual men and women and there are families. And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look to themselves first. It’s our duty to look after ourselves and then also to help look after our neighbour.
Come and join us as we share our thoughts with the encouragement of a mince pie or two.
Background notes will be posted later this week. We meet at 7pm in the Villagers’ Stores. The bar will be open from 6.30pm. If you haven’t been to Thinking Allowed before, you are assured of a warm welcome.
