Covid-19: The Villagers’ Stores

Given the Government’s announcement yesterday, that the country is to enter a state of ‘lock-down’, our duty as good citizens is to remain in the isolation of our homes for the next three weeks or until another instruction is forthcoming.

Whilst the announcement also included the closure of all retail outlets, the Villagers’ Stores will be permitted to remain open as it is deemed a shop providing an essential service, however, the hours are likely to be reduced.

To compensate for this, and to encourage everyone to remain at home, especially those of a 70 year+ vintage and anyone with particular medical concerns, there will be a delivery service available manned by a small group of volunteers. Further details of this will be circulated in due course.

Writing this feels like a Gerald Ratner moment, telling customers to stay away from the shop, but it is quite the contrary. The shop has never been more important to us and we should be ensuring that the volunteers limit their exposure to public groups, and thus trips to Minehead for shopping will be as minimal as possible.

I will endeavour to maintain high stock levels during this enforced isolation. More news as to how the delivery service will work to follow shortly…

Stay safe,
Andy
