Road Closure Details

Many of you will have already received letters by post from Wessex Water with details of the forthcoming road closure. Roz Griffin and I have both been in touch with Wessex Water to find out more details. Here is the basic information as given in the letter from Wessex Water, and beneath it are details of the closure dates of the junction of Fairgarden Road and Ranscombe Road:

Essential sewer rehabilitation in Wootton Courtenay

This work in Wootton Courtenay will be carried out for two weeks between Monday 27th April and Friday 8th May 2026.

The work will be carried out using ‘no-dig’ techniques, which are quicker and less intrusive than replacing the pipe in a conventional manner. Some manhole access covers will also be replaced as a part of this work. The works will be predominantly on the Post Office side of the road which is also where our vehicles will be situated.

Church To Brockwell Lane and Ranscombe Road will be closed to through traffic from the junction of Stoney Close to the junction of Ranscombe Road and Fairgarden Road, with a signposted diversion via Cowbridge, Dunster and Tivington in place. Access will be maintained for residents within the closure, although it may be delayed at times. Please speak to our on-site team with any specific access requirements. Emergency services can access the area if required.

There may be some noise disruption while this work is being undertaken, some of which may last into the evening, but every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum. You can continue to use your water and sewerage services as normal unless we tell you otherwise.

Extra Information:
The project starts on Monday 27th April, progressing along Church To Brockwell Lane from west to east, before the completion of work on the junction of Fairgarden Road and Ranscombe Road.

Currently, Wessex Water will only require the junction of Fairgarden Road and Ranscombe Road to be closed on Tuesday 28th April and on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th May, when the signposted diversion will be in use. The section of sewer running through the junction is the final length to be relined and sealed. The team will move the road closure signs throughout the works to accommodate road space where possible at that junction.
