Biodiversity Bimble Group

Saturday 15th August

Following the People’s Emergency Briefing in the hall last Saturday, I am taking action to start a regular Biodiversity Bimble in the Avill and Porlock Vale. This will involve a group of people going for a nice gentle walk in any given direction (which we would decide on collectively on the day, or in advance), sharing our knowledge about plants and animals as we go. I have a good knowledge of trees, which I will share, but I would welcome any other knowledge that others can bring to the group.

The intention is that we all to learn more about our environment together, collectively, and find out more about what can be used as food, dyes, medicine, etc. It can also just be an opportunity to go for a nice walk together as a community and to share any thoughts we have about biodiversity and climate crises as well. In future we may look to do some collective harvests of wild produce and to hire out the hall to make jams, etc, together as a community.

I am proposing to do the first walk this coming Saturday morning, 15th August, between 10am and 12 midday, meeting outside All Saints’ Church, Wootton Courtenay. The intention is to do them monthly. We will be picking blackberries whilst bimbling for this one, so please bring some tubs along. We will organise the next date and time from there.

I will be putting together a WhatsApp group for those who wish to keep in the loop about the events. Please message me on 07796 472565 to have your name added.
