Tuesday 24th November, 7.30pm in Wootton Courtenay Village Hall
A Talk by Graham Boswell – ‘A Liking for Lichens’
Entry: Free for members. Guests: £3.
Graham is an ecologist (specifically a lichenologist), and has taught on the subject at various levels for many years. He is the Field Meeting Secretary for the British Lichen Society and the Lichen Recorder for the Exmoor Natural History Society. We are very lucky to have such an eminent lichenologist visit the Club; Graham happens to be local but his experience is global.
This talk will cover what lichens are, offer key pointers for identification (with the focus on species found locally), explore lichen habitats and microhabitats, and discuss what lichens are used for, including lichens in space!
Graham will take questions throughout and he will be bringing some specimens to look at. Please bring your reading glasses, if you need them, and a hand lens or magnifying glass – or even two, to lend one to someone else.
Tea and coffee will be served before the talk, from 7.00pm.
I hope to see you there,
Marion Jay
