Ticks on Exmoor

Photo: Woodland Trust website

This long hot summer has been a boon for ticks, and Exmoor is one of the areas of the UK where they are very common. It’s well worth learning how to identify a tick and how to safely remove one if you are bitten. Most tick bites are harmless, but a small proportion of ticks carry Lyme disease so it’s important to be aware of the symptoms.

The Woodland Trust have a webpage which provides good information on identifying and removing ticks, and avoiding being bitten in the first place. Click here to read it in your browser.

The Scottish NHS have useful advice on their Inform website, including identifying some of the symptoms of Lyme disease and a video showing how to remove a tick. Click here to go to their webpage.

And the NHS also has a very detailed webpage on Lyme disease itself, including treatment options. Click here to visit the webpage.
