Dickensian Feast Thank You

A huge thank you to Ruth Walker and her multitude of helpers (including wenches) for yesterday afternoon’s Dickensian Feast in the village hall. The hall was beautifully decorated with floral arrangements, Dickens-themed silhouettes, lanterns and mini-exhibitions. It was evident that a lot of work had gone into the preparations and it was very impressive.

Despite some issues with the cooker hob, the feast itself was very enjoyable and toasts were raised to all. After we’d eaten, members of the Dunkery Players performed short sketches and quotes from Dickens, and our village crier Richard Oliver led us in a chorus of ‘You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two’ from Oliver!

Then our place mats were turned over, revealing that their undersides were playing cards, and a lottery was drawn for chances to win a series of hats embellished by some of our more artistic villagers, which were worn with pride by the winners!

Thank you to everyone who made the event possible – especially the cooks, who struggled in difficult circumstances yet still managed to present us with a delicious 3-course meal. It was yet another wonderful Wootton Courtenay event to remember.

Photos to follow in the next few days.
