A trusted helping hand on your doorstep – bringing local care and support together
Finding reliable help at home is becoming increasingly important for people living in West Somerset. Porlock Vale CIC is helping make that easier through its developing Trusted Local Network of Micro-Providers.
As people grow older, everyday tasks such as shopping, gardening, getting to appointments or simply having someone to talk to can become more difficult. Finding someone reliable, local and affordable to help is not always straightforward. That’s where Porlock Vale CIC’s Trusted Local Network comes in.
Working collaboratively with Somerset Council and community partners, the network brings together self-employed local people who offer practical, personalised support to help others remain independent in their own homes.
But what makes it a Trusted Local Network?
Unlike an informal list of names or personal recommendations, the network has an agreed framework of checks, safeguarding expectations, training and standards. This helps provide greater confidence and reassurance for people seeking support, and recognition for the local providers delivering it.
From companionship, shopping and gardening to transport, personal care and more specialist support, the network helps connect people with providers whose skills, availability, location and services match their individual needs.
Importantly, people remain in control. Porlock Vale CIC’s Community Support Lead, Laura Bevens, helps explore options and make introductions, but individuals and families decide what support is right for them.
The network is just one part of Porlock Vale CIC’s expanding community services. With 29 years of local experience, its Information Centre provides a familiar place to seek advice and information, while its Community Support Lead also helps people navigate applications for Attendance Allowance, PIP and Blue Badges.
The message is simple: people shouldn’t have to struggle alone or spend hours trying to find the right help.
By bringing trusted local people together, Porlock Vale CIC is helping build a stronger support network, protecting independence and making it easier for people to continue living well at home in the community they love.
