All Saints’ PCC are delighted to announce that, as part of our commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the First World War, Bishop Brian Castle will be giving a lecture in All Saints’ Church, Wootton Courtenay, on Friday, November 9th at 7.30pm, entitled:
‘At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them’ – Remembering Through the Lens of Reconciliation.
The lecture – which he will also be giving in Exeter Cathedral, earlier in November – reminds us that the way we remember the past affects the present and shapes the future. It then explores ways that the First World War, and other conflicts, are remembered and asks how far their remembrance encourages reconciliation between former enemies. Brian Castle, former Bishop of Tonbridge and author of two books on reconciliation, is now a resident of Wootton Courtenay, and an assistant bishop in the diocese of Bath and Wells. This is a unique opportunity to hear this thought-provoking and apposite lecture in our own parish church.
